Need input on Int. 454 purchase

I was originally looking at purchasing a Ford 4000 but came across a 1971 454 this morning and went to look at it. It has a loader, wheel weights and fluid in rears. Rubber is good and load is real responsive and quick. Typical look for that age of tractor, hours are not verified and not working, last shown was 2500. Only concern I had was the (gas) engine seemed to have a little knock to it and was hard to tell as the belly muffler was loud. Is this engine typically smooth and quiet or on the heavy side for noise? He's asking $5500 with pallet forks and bucket.

My brother still has Dad's 1972 454 Diesel and it is still running very well. I cannot comment on the C-157 Gas engine.
The trans/diff/rear axles where very strong on them as the same trans/diff/rear axles were used on tractors up to 80HP.
Check the Parking Brake and the hydraulics on the loader after the hydraulic fluid has warmed up.
The straight front axle is better for a loader than the swept back front axle.
