Engine Rebuild Kits

Hey all. Thinking I'm going to need to open up my 444 and investigate my blow by issue on #1 cylinder a bit further, as MMO and other fixes haven't helped. I'm thinking it might be a broken ring. However, I also know things can escalate quickly once you get into it. That stated, is there a better maker of engine kits out there? I see Reliance and others. YT only shows a BD154 kit (I have the C153 gas). Just wondering what you guys with "the addiction" like to use on your projects. Thanks!

I spent a lot of time trying to find a top quality kit for a MF 50 gas overhaul. Lots of hype in the description but no real defining data in the on-line writeups. I ended up ordering one. The item came in a box with the return address of a totally different seller in a totally different direction of the nation. I think there is just one pot of soup, but it comes in cans with many different labels. I also think my local parts house gets his gruel out of the same soup pot. Sorry, just my interpretation.

the kits will all come from the same manufacture because just how many tractors with that sleeve I-H would be the only one that ever use it probably only sell 25 a yr

Thanks for the easy interpretation! Very much appreciated!

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but I found myself in a section for engine kits and it only showed the BD154 kit for a 444. ?

It's not you. It's because TISCO (SMA) doesn't list any other engine kit under the 444 IH tractor, except for the BD154. I am a dealer for them as well, so I looked it up to see. I looked it up under reliance (I'm a dealer for them too) and they show the kit but it is an expensive booger.

The reason 444 only lists the Diesel BD-154 engine as your 444 is a USA crated tractor that everything from the from the clutch back(trans, diff, rear axles, hydraulics) was build in Bradford UK and shipped in
a crate to Louisville, KY, USA and the C-153 USA made gas engine was installed plus Delco electrics, IH USA front axles, power steering, wheels and tires.

IIRC the C-153 was a sleeve less engine, it was also used in many other tractor, swathers, etc., see link below for caseih.com parts for C-153 and read the INTRODUCTION pages.
C 153 Parts

If you notice there are no overhaul kits, pistons, piston rings or sleeves listed for the C153 because it looks like TISCO does not sell those.

It's called "drop shipment" and it is a very common practice. The place you buy from doesn't actually have what you're buying on a shelf in their own warehouse. They're just middlemen taking a piece of the profit. What they do is pass your order on to a wholesaler who actually has the product in their warehouse, where they pack it, slap a label on it, and ship it to you.

As I said, a very common practice that has been going on for decades. The advantage is the vendor can offer the product at a lower price because they are not paying to warehouse it, or they can offer it at the same price and take a bigger profit, but usually they offer it at a lower price to undercut the competition.
