560 carb issues

I bought a rebuilt carb for our 560. I cannot make any adjustments to the idle or mixture. I can screw them both all the way in or way out and makes no difference. The tractor idles fine and runs fine full throttle but when it is idling and i go to open the throttle it misses and backfires and nearly kills off. If i pull the choke out at least half way I can rev it up with no problem. With the old carb it would run fine full throttle but couldn't get it to idle down lower then 900 rpm. Any info on this would be appreciated.
thanks

Ya hear this so many times , I BOUGHT A REBUILT CARB and it does not work. There are a lot of people that say they can REBUILD a carb or rebuilt a carb and really all they did was SPRAY a half a can of carb and choke cleaner thru it put a needle and seat in it never checked the float , never cleaned the crud off the float . never installed new shaft bushing and new shaft and call it a rebuild . Or they forget to put all the pieces and parts back in .I have been rebuilding carbs of all kinds for a lot of years and yes i have messed up , luckly they were my own carbs and one Cubby carb that i was working on when someone came thru the shop doorand i turned around to see who came in i hit my elbow on a T/A center section i had hanging in the holding fixture and the base of the cubby carb left my finger and hit the edge of the bench and snapped off the tiny tube . But 99.9% of the time when you take one of my carbs and install it back on the tractor she is bench set and will start and run first time . Low ideal may be a bit high and she more then likely need a 1/4 turn on the screws to make it dead on once the engine is warmed up. The other thing is i prefer to be the one that puts the carb back on and do the settings . Then i can see IF i need to do more settings on the tractor like setting the timing and do a valve adjustment , these things are most often over looked with younger guys as you are not use to things like this due to the fact that todays STUFF is just get in and drive , No valves to adjust , no ing timing to check no points to worry about , ya don't check manifold bolts or carb to gov. adjustments and yes this needs done when you remove and reinstall a carb , No you will not be off that far but you will be off . I set adjustments with a tach and set timing with a timing light not by ear . When i am rebuilding a carb i give them a deep long HOT SOAK in some real nasty stuff that will remove five layers of hide so fast if you get it on you that you will lean fast not to do it again . Juwst hooking a piece of wire to the cab and letting it down into the bottom and bring it back up any paint that is on the outside will be coming off . But the slow cook for 24 hours then a strong HOT soapy wash then a triple rinse and all passages are blowen out with compressed air and check for flow , if one or so are still plugged then they get reamed out with the correct size drill bit by hand and blowen out again . Throttle shafts are checked for ware along with shaft bushings for proper fit and movement . Venture is hand cleaned and polished jets are checked for ware . Floats are cleaned and polished Float height is set and float drop is set . Float side clearance is checked so that the float is not rubbing or hanging on the side of the bowl. And once it is all back together then i set the ideal and base line screw adjustments . Takes me not quiet a half day not counting soak time to go thru one .

Just a thought, but when you having it running take a can of starting fluid and spray around the intake and
see if it surges.

The not wanting to rev up sounds like a leaking intake.

Like I said, just a thought and easy to check.

Yikes, Yes that is a total carb rebuild!!! Thanks for all the info. wish we would have had you do this one. Bought it from All States, figured we would be safe getting it from them. Course i don't know who actually did the rebuild.
thanks again

That is good info. Only reason i wasn't concerned about an intake leak is cause it didn't do that with the other carb. Only thing with that one is it wouldn't idle down lower then 900 but i'm guessing that the throttle shaft hole is so worn out that it is sucking air so it's like the throttle won't close.
I appreciate all you guy's help and input.
thanks again

Might hafta take carb apart and check that
all holes are clear with a small piece of
wire and compressed air.

I would get a new one , I don t like those places you get rebuilt carbs for sale. My buddy bought one a while back and there was also something wrong with his , at least if you get a new one you have something to work with , or if you have yours that was the original one you can just rebuild it yourself

Yea you are right, i have bought rebuilt parts in the past and a lot of times they don't work. So we will have to look for a new one.
thanks for your input
