560 farmall gas overheating

I just replaced the head gasket. While I was doing that I took off the water pump to check for wear, I noticed a fair bit of wear on it so I put a new one on... I am not getting water movement in the radiator. There is a thermostat in it

Did you test the thermostat in a pan of water on the oven range top with a thermometer? Maybe the thermostat is not opening as it should. I also drill a 1/8 inch hole in the thermostat plate edge to help make sure block and head are full of coolant, and not air locked.

I have seen new water pumps that the impeller just spun on the shaft. There is a massive dual bypass in the Tstat housing. Jim

there are like 5 threaded holes and plugs one lined up with the bypass hose so I threaded the same adapter from the old pump into the new one. And put some Indian head shalac on threads of others and installed the plugs(can you screw them in too far to reduce water flow

you talking about the original thermostat or one you put in? you will not get coolant movement till the stat opens. whats the tractor history here? the radiator cores could be plugged. plus overheating idling or working?

I doubt that the fitting you screwed in the pump is causing your problem. I?m with rustred we need a better explanation of what over heating means in this case. And how are you using the tractor when it is happening?

just at a high idle. I might try drilling hole in stat. why could'nt I just take it out. I drained coolant from the block and rad drained. I'm thinking air locked

If the the temp Gage shows that is is
actually overheating, and you see no
circulation proceed with the following. The
waterpump has a belt and is turning right?
Drain the antifreeze and make sure flows out
of radiater with water hose good. Take
thermostat out and fill with water to see if
it circulates. If still no circulation there
must be something wrong with water pump or
something is blocked. Note: it may be hard
to see circulation if radiater is full. I
heard a trick with 560's sometimes it helps
just to have it filled just a little bit
above cores. Lastly if you just changed head
gasket did you re torque it hot? It might
sound unlikely but you could be pushing
exhaust into coolant making it overheat.
Also when it's hot is the radiater still
cold?

It was way simpler than I was thinking... The stat finally broke free and opened. Runs great now. Thanks all ...now I just need to troubleshoot the charging system. Will stay running if I'm hook battery but not charge battery
