No. Do you know who put that filter in?
Usually, a crushed filter means someone put it in crooked and then tightened up the bolts.

It could be from ice crystals plugging up the filter, then a collapse. If there is milkieness to the oil, it could be that. Jim

how do we know it is even the correct filter? no picture, no numbers. and the backyard mechanic wont know the difference either. I do know a plugged filter will collapse also. does the new filter match the old one?

No it is not normal and should not be. According to the Case site your filter number should be one of these either a 37585R91 or if not a typo 375085R91 the later being the farmall model the prior being the utility model. Ther should be 2 in the housing and look to be about 3or 4 inches long and about 4-5 inches in diameter. Since I have never seen them before I am guessing on the dimensions.

First part number is a typo, not enough digits. All IH numbers of that era were 6-digit, an R, and 1-2 additional digits.

375085R91 is the number for the original "donut" style filters. There is also a one-piece oval filter which is the newer/better style which is part number 388084R93.
