Super C chewed up another ring gear

This will be the 3rd time to split it apart..The flywheel ring gear keeps stripping teeth. The first time I just flipped the ring gear over,the 2nd time I replaced it with a new aftermarket part and a NEW complete starter. I've started it less than 50 times since then and now it's grinding again. What am I missing here?
 
does the starter drive match the ring gear teeth?On an M/Md/SM/400....There 9 tooth drives,and 11 tooth drives. Are you you have the right starter drive? Is there too much clearance between the drive and ring.Or too little?Really hard to say with looking at it.
 
In addition to what Delta said, are you using a new style starter drive with the small retract spring, or the old style with a flat wound big spring. The new
drive is much better. The new starter might be from the land of modest dimension control. If so a used starter from Delco Rebuilt is a best practices option.

I've pondered on the starter drive to ring gear clearance..How does one check that?
 
Some starter systems react to 12v with failure. Using #4 battery cables, helps. The new style drive also helps. It isgoing to be loking at tooth wear patterns
that show the engagement. The new ring gear may be much softer than the OEM. Jim
 
I agree I think. Wrong tooth count,and if you go to IH parts at the top of the page you will find an improved bendix(starter drive),the improved one is even cheaper. I do not even know if it is possible but is the new ring gear the same as the old one. Just asking.
