Green Acres

The post below got me to wondering. At the end of the series, did the Douglas's give up and go back to the city? Or did they 'tuff' it up and stay on the farm?

Did a little surfing, and there apparently was not a final episode. Final episodes generally are reserved for those shows going out on top. Others simply get abruptly cancelled.

Someone seems to have decided that there is/was a need for an updated version of Green Acres and now there is the show "Bless This Mess". Not exactly the same but I can see some similarities!

Wonder what the next old show concept someone will decide to do a new spin on will be?

Nothing could be much worse than some of what they call "Reality Shows" I'd mention some by name but then you might think I actually watch them!

Those were the shows Good Laughs language and music. a time of ""innocents"" Yes some of the puns, jokes, gafaws, were relaxing for both mind and body. especially for those of us who were rural born and bred.

I heard they are considering a remake of 'All in the Family'. Woody Harrelson plays Archie Bunker.I could only imagine the flack/ferver/protests in today's racial and political climate.

CBS executives made a decision to end all rural based shows in favor of more urban programming at that time. Beverly hillbilly s and petticoat junction were canceled at the same time

Last year in an interview on blazing saddles 40 or 45th anniversary. Mel Brooks said Hollywood wouldn t let him make that film today. PC wins out over satire

The story I was told, CBS had Mayberry RFD, Beverly hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Doris Day, (remember the IH 444 on that show?)and was on top of the ratings. NBC and ABC referred to CBS as the rural or agricultural channel. CBC executives were embarrassed and canceled all the shows. They have never been no 1 since.

Watch Green Acres every evening (except Sat & Sun not aired) on ME TV. It comes on right after Gomer Pyle. Last thing we do before turning out the lights.

Several years ago after a long tough day on my place I had an episode of Green Acres on while I was fixing dinner. It restored my perspective about my farm, where every day is
"Try to put it together faster than it falls apart." At least my bedroom closet doesn't open to the outside. I AM one up on someone !!!!! I also started wearing my over the top jewelry and lounge wear in the evening like Lisa Douglas. Those of us who live on old farms recognize the deep referencing and utter brilliance and real intelligence of the writing which was so underrated. Eva Gabor was also greatly underrated as an actress. I watch it on Me-TV too, and it saves my sanity. Thanks for bringing it up here on this forum. It belongs.
