Farmall 706 gas

Not sure. but I'd guess it was about the same time the (282) diesel got changed to the 310German. 1967.

If I recall the D310 replaced the D282 in end of 1966 year. The gas 263 to 291 might have been about the same time. The D282 was still used in the 656 in early 1970s.

working on my early 706 the best I can gather is the 282 with slip fit sleeves are 63 and 64 as the book says 75 lbs to put in the block and then they were shimmed, some time later in 64 to 66 the 282 had a hard press sleeve that I think the book said 5000 pound to press in block, then 67 was the 310 German motor. I not sure on the gas motor if need I could look at my book and it may give the serial number breaks for that also.

The serial number break for the D310 German diesel is 37327 per all the information I am finding. Late November 1966 production.

Some discussions state the serial number break is the same for the C263 to C291 changeover as well.

I've been doing a little research in the parts book, and some clues indicate that 37327 was also the changeover for the C291. One being, the hood for the gas engine tractor has a serial number break at that point, same as the diesel.

My IH parts book shows 4 different engines used in 706 in its production life. earlyC 262,D282. Late C291,D310. I can go out later and see what the SN breaks say.
