Farmall Super M Hydraulics

I bought a Super M Farmall and all the hydraulic lines and fittings were removed. It has a belly pump and a live HYD pump installed but thats about it. I would like to know how to connect the live hydraulic system so I can operate the 3 point hitch and the remote outlets. ANy picture or advice is appreciated.

No offense but when you say it has a live hydraulic pump installed you are talking about a pump
between the distributor and front engine gear case, correct? If there are no hoses to that pump it
is likely burnt up due to running with no oil. It may be okay if there is a hose loop running from the
inlet to the outlet and at least some oil in it to circulate. I do believe it is rare to nonexistent to have
a belly pump and a live pump installed on the same tractor from the factory, not saying one or the
other could have been added later.

there has to be someone near you with a M that uses the live pump for the hy system go see how or pay someone that knows how to do it. It is not easy to tell you how to do it as you think you still have the belley pump when your system is probably using the resivour on that system for hy fluid. Just cannot see that from here.I would think a dealer would know someone who has a system like that or one of his mechs would

Yes it is rare to have both. When there is both the belly pump is used as a reservoir. However,I have seen instances where the belly is used for hydraulics and the mag is used for power steering.I agree, the mag pump is probably burned up due to no oil.And you need to physicly look at a system to learn how to hook up. Furthermore,I highly recommend using an alternative hydralic tank instead of the belly pump. Under the gas tank is a good place.I put one in front of the grill once. In worked well even if it looked a bit odd.Post some pics so we can better help you.

I think some super M's came with live hyds
which I imagine would be about the same as
an MTA. But an MTA would be slightly longer
so lines might be longer. It may be hard to
find correct parts at salvage yard and
pricey. A 400 would have same pump.

There are no "correct" lines for a live pump to a belly reservoir. It was not a factory option.

Hydraulics on a Super M run in a big loop. Keeping that in mind helps you understand how to hook it up better.

So you start at the drain port on the bottom of the belly pump. This runs to the suction port on the live pump. Oil comes out the pressure port on the live pump and goes to the IN port on an OPEN CENTER "4-way" hydraulic valve with a 1500PSI relief setting. Oil comes out the OUT port on the valve, and enters the fill pipe on top of the belly pump.

You connect the two "work" ports on the valve to your 3pt cylinder(s), or terminate the hoses in Pioneer couplers at the rear of the tractor.

It's really that simple.

Thank so much....I connected the way you stated and it works well. One more question....what should I do with the Belly pump connections? Can they be used in conjunction with the live hydraulic system? Or should I just cap them off?

The way it's plumbed up it the live system won't interfere with the belly pump hydraulics as far as I know. That is assuming the belly pump drive is connected and it's functional.

There's really no reason to use them though. I would take the lever off and cap the ports to discourage its use.

My super M has live hydraulic pump and uses the belly pump reservoir. My guess is they used those reservoirs until the inventory ran out. it works fine and i have never removed the belly pump stuff to see if the pump is in it or the shaft hole is capped.

Actually there are correct lines for his setup if its an M&W which many of them were when hooked to the belly pump. He did not state the type of pump he has but if its got a belly pump its a Stage 1 Super M and it did not leave the factory setup like his currently is. I have set of those line around here somewhere....or used to - I don't remember where I put them

Agree none left the factory with both a liftall unit in center housing and a engine driven hydraulic pump. But some stage two SM left the factory with a unit in center housing so you can't say for sure what stage it was by that.. Ones that did have a bracket bolted to rear gas tank support like the picture for the stage 2 control rods. Little different bracket was mounted to liftall housing under fuel tank with engine driven pump.

I bought a Behlin power steering unit and a bit confused as to how to install it....I ran a pressure line into and the relief side I ran back to the belly pump.....I tried using the 3 point and there was no pressure sitting at idle. The hitch would not work. any ideas??
