IH 434 Steering Box removal

I'm working to pull the steering box out of my 434 as it's got a lot of slack and needs rebuilt.

It appeares to be a straight forward removal, but it's not working out that way. I've disconnected all the steering parts, plus I've removed the 4 bolts and nut up top that hold the box to the frame. I see nothing else to remove, but it's still down tight to the frame. Is there bolts underneath or elsewhere that I've likely missed?

I've tapped it with a hammer and block of wood so it's not just stuck, I've overlooked something. The model is an oddball in my area so I've had to figure a lot out on my own.

Thanks,
Kerry

(quoted from post at 16:28:35 12/06/19) Looking at the caseih parts book there appear to be 6 bolts that hold it to the top of the chassis.

There is six on one side, the left side when sitting on the tractor. On the right I can only find two after looking a lot.

There is three on one side, the left side when sitting on the tractor. On the right I can only find two after looking a lot.

Tapping with a block of wood all around, it feels solid on both sides. Even if I missed one, I'm guessing it should twist or move a little at least.

Any idea where the third bolt on the other side could be?

Thanks,

(quoted from post at 03:44:25 12/07/19) It is stuck on the two dowl pegs if it is the same as the B275 and B414 tractors.

Where are the two dowels located as I don't see them on the diagram? If I know the location, possible I could use a few small chisels to tap between the box and frame to get it unstuck

Thanks!

I got the box out yesterday. I'll have to buy a new steering wheel since I was forced to cut the other off. It was so badly corroded I had not choice.

I started pulling the box apart and it appears to have wheel bearing grease in it. Very think stuff so that could be one of the roads to it's failure.

I found it odd that there is no bearing and race on top of the worm shaft like noted in the drawings. I actually had two spacers instead so only one bearing was used, at the bottom of the worm shaft. It doesn't appear to have been opened up before...

Should I reassemble per the drawings or go back with the double spaced on top? Just want to do what's best.

Thanks
