Hello,
I wanted to follow up on a thread that I started a few weeks ago, but it seems to have disappeared. This s simply a followup for those who may experience this problem in the future.
The problem was that I lost first and reverse only. I heard a "clunk" sound when shifting, and that was it. No more first or reverse, but all the other gears worked.
I finally got around to taking off the transmission inspection cover, which is difficult for the 3444 because the hydraulic hoses must be removed and the hydraulic housing located under the seat must be removed with a lift. All this, just to get to one single bolt on the transmission inspection cover.
I found a broken shifter fork at the bottom of the transmission when reaching my arm down in, after removing the cover. It was cast iron, and looked perfectly fine, but for some odd reason, it broke. Lucky it did not ruin the gears by getting caught up on the way down. There were a couple of fresh gouges in it. Anyway, I found a used 1rst-reverse shifter fork for 70 dollars from a junkyard in Iowa. And I was so happy that I did not have to split the tractor!
