Timing a H4 Magneto

I posted a while back that my H Snow Plow tractor just died, well I replaced the condenser and have good spark out to the distributor cap.
Now for the timing. I have #1 cylinder at TDC and the timing mark lined up. The rotor seems to be slightly off #1 on the cap.
Could I possibly have the mag off by 180 degrees? It is back firing big time.
Tried moving the Mag in both directions and either nothing or big backfire?

As you can see I have a red mark at 2 oclock but the rotor is pointing at 3 oclock and the #1 cyl. is at TDC any ideas?

Are you SURE you have #1 at TDC at the end of the compression stroke? If you didn't verify that by rocker arm position or putting a finger OVER the #1 sparkplug hole and noting air being forced out as the piston came up to TDC you very well may be 360 crank degrees/180 rotor degrees "off".

Did you note rotor position BEFORE pulling mag?

Also, did you by any chance remove the 2 screws and cover behind the rotor and get the rotor "out of time" with the mag?

I have the wires on the cap running clock wise #1 #3 #4 #2 which is the firing sequence, why do you suggest swapping wires?

Thanks my friend..swapped them and it fired right off, it actually ran pretty smooth. So did I install the mag off 180?
Take the mag and turn 180?
