Rear wheel bolts-Regular Farmall

I am changing the F&H steel back wheels to Farmall wheels with tires. Bolts spin in holes and it is almost impossible to hold the heads from turning. How was the original bolt retained on the back side? Mine have been replaced with 5/8-11 bolts x 3-1/2" long and I have (4) which may get cut off with a sawzall. According to the Manual (2) are suspose to be studs which seems are long gone. How many people still use the studs??

When I put the new bolts in hopefully this problem will be resolved? Any ideas?? Cleddy

My old F20 had bolts. they were square heads. And yes, they were a royal PIA to remove(and tighten). You may have to bend/weld a cheap wrench specifically for that purpose. Then put in your toolbox for future use..It would help to have a second person to hold the wrench. If there are still threads in the hub,I'd go back with studs.

I am going to look and see if there is room. An old trick is to weld something on the bolt head so it can not turn when when tightening & looseining? cleddy

the thing is when using new bolts use some neversieze on the threads and all will be good. they will tighten up easy. yes cut them off as those old rusted seized bolts will be a pain.

If my memory serves, two opposite holes are larger in diameter. You put bolts through from outside to get the wheel and hub lined up. Then you put all the other bolts in from the back. There is a dirt cover over the top half of the axle, so you have to work from the bottom below tha dust shield. Then remove those larger diamonds bolts and reverse them.

Keep in mind, these wheels weren't really planedd on coming on and off much. You dont get flat steel wheels.
