I need to replace my thermostat off a 706,but not having any luck thru my local CaseIH dealer. He can get one for the early models,282 engine, but mine has the later 310 german built engine. I'm from Alberta and we don't have as many aftermarket parts suppliers as you fellas in the states. Or is there something I can do to repair this thermostat? it sticks open and takes forever to warm up.

Hello,
I am showing two thermostats one is an early external and we don't have one. the other is a late 180 deg. internal thermostat we have that one for $25 + frt.
Thanks Ed

Your 706 thermostat is in a tin housing and is no longer avaiable. The later german diesels used a differant water pump carrier with a convetional thermostat under the water hose outlet. The only thing you can do is get a waterpump carrier, "The cast peice the water pump bolts to" off of any 1968 or later german 3, 4, or 6 cylinder engine and bolt it on. Some greedy salvage yards want half price of new for this part wich is $450. I found a carrier and the water outlet for about $100 from Wengers in PA, very reasonable people to deal with. You will also need a couple gaskets, the upper radiater hose from a late 756 and the short hose that goes from the water manifold to the carrier. CIH will have these parts.

Hi Darcey, here is the story from parts book.
MN Scott is correct part is no longer available and to use new part you have to change the water pump carrier and some other parts. See below:

706/756 D-310 prior to engine number 52-P-728

Item 15 p/n 3055998R92 THERMOSTAT THERMOSTAT

Item 9 p/n 3056000R1 CARRIER/Retired CARRIER - water pump, no longer available, order thermostat 3228046R1, gasket 3059672R1, hose 3132912R1, carrier 3136678R2, plug 20972R1, elbow 3132142R2 (715 combines) or elbow 3132909R1 (all other machines)

706/756 D-310 after engine number 52-P-728 also 95/715/782/686 and Hydro 86

Item 10 p/n 3228046R1 THERMOSTAT THERMOSTAT - coolant, 180 - 194 degree Fahrenheit (Replaces thermostat 3059676R91) with
Item 3 p/n 3136678R2 COVER CARRIER - water pump

Same thermostat and carrier as 684 with D-239, same as 484 D-179, same as 584 D-206

You could try the following salvage yard in St. Marys Ont. as they have several 484,584,684 tractor parts: http://www.fawcett.cc/

Hope this helps

I ran into this same prblem of not being able to get a themostat on a 756 that used the same one. The fix is to change the water pump carrier from a different series tractor that uses a german diesel, it will bolt right on, this housing has a conventionaly mounted thermostat housing on it. I found this would probably cost over $1500.00 worth the parts. I fabricated a thermostat housing that fits directly in place of the original, with only cutting a little more than a inch off of the upper radiator hose. It also now has a thermostat which can be replaced, that can be bought at any auto parts store. This has been working great in the tractor that I put it in. If you are intrested in more please reply.
