manifold question

You should use a manifold gasket, made for that purpose. I never use gasket cement on a manifold. The nuts should tightened from the center to the outside ends, but do it in steps. No need to retighten.

Ah Rusty one should always check the manifold bolts on the newer gassers . I find them loose all the time . Due to the heating and cooling they come loose eveen when ya burn your pinkie putting the wizz on them hot i find them loose the next year during tune up. I have even found them loose on the old m's thru the 450's that get worked hard. YEs i still have guys over here that still do everything with them .

I sure liked the quality of the gaskets from the dealer, not cheap, about twice as much as others but i was using a used replacement manifold.

That sounds like my lineup of tractors.

On any manifold we replaced we put the think brass nuts in place of the steel ones, if they used nuts and studs. Never had one loosen back up.

For the intake manifold you mizel get new gaskets. Sometimes I put high temp rtv on gaskets-helps hold in place for installation and maybe seals better.

Easier to get off next time. Its softer than steel, so if it strips it messed up the nut and leaves the stud in tact. If you have to burn it off, it melts easier so you wont mess up the threads on the stud. Problem is you can strip them putting them on if youre not careful.

Where do you source brass nuts?
