I have a 1951 Farmall M that was stuck badly and I fixed all that. It now runs very good. I now am figuring out the hydraulics that I think work good also, but have three questions with pictures. Q1. Where do you fill the hydraulic oil at in the tractor? There looks like an inlet on the top right side of case and inlets on the left side of case. I just want to make sure.
Q2. Where is the hydraulic oil level? I can see the two inlets on the left side and maybe one is the oil level. Q3. The lever that actuates the hydraulics hits the case of the tractor by the bell housing. Is there a proper way to keep that from happening? Outside of putting a stop on the case or the control rod by the dash.
I bought an IT Q8 manual but it does not say anything about these basic things.

I donít have a tractor here to measure, but if your dipstick is lost the level should be about 10Ē down from the top of the nipple that the pipe reducer is screwed on as a cap on your tractor. The previous owner just added that to make a larger opening to hit when adding fluid. I am attaching a link to the M CaseIH online parts page of the lift-all pump, hopefully that will clarify some of your questions. From there or in your picture of the left side you posted you will see that the large odd shaped cast piece sticking out of the bottom of the tractor is actually the bottom of the pump. There is a drain plug in that shown as 16 on the parts page. Since it sounds like you donít know the previous or current condition of the system it would be best to pull the plug and drain to make sure there is no water in the system. Then I would add 2 quarts of hydraulic fluid (303) will be fine. IH originally called for 10 weight non-detergent, but these tractors came out before hydraulic fluids were widely available. The reason for starting with 2 quarts is your pump drive seal may be bad and it will just leak out any way. Make sure the 3 pressure outlets are plugged or capped snuggly. Start your tractor and run at idle with the clutch out. Pull the rod back and if all is working right you should hear a hydraulic type whine of the pump pressuring up against the plugged outlets. This will not hurt the pump because it has an internal pressure relief. This is no different then when a cylinder is connected to the system and it comes to the end of its full lift stroke. However, when raising an implement the operator can pull the rod into the lift position where it will stay. Then when the cylinder is fully extended the lift control rod will kick back to center hold position against the nub on the rod. If you seem to get no response then either you control is not engaging through the side of the tractor properly or the drive from the transmission has been removed to disable the lift pump. We can reply from this point in a different post. Sorry this is long, but I am just trying to add detail for you. I have no idea where you are in computer knowledge but I would not recommend trying to view the IH parts page on a smart phone. It just doesnít work that well. And if you feel like you want to reference it later I would suggest to bookmark it. It is not real easy to find by searching their parts site.

The fill port is circled in black and holds 6 quarts.

Your has been changed. It should have a screw on cap with a dip stick.

The lever fits into slots on the control arm in the pump. Yours may not be installed correctly.
There should also be a piece welded on the control rod to hold it in neutral at the bracket on the steering post.

Fast that picture showing the rod from the back posted by Rodney is not of JEK1ís Tractor. Notice diesel and shiny paint. Nothing against you just trying to minimize confusion in the thread.

The two pipes coming out of the left side are pressure outlets. The one on the right side is also a pressure outlet. The pipe coming out the top on the right side is where you put oil in, there should be a dipstick under the cap and that is not the cap that belongs on the top pipe. It should also be vented.

The lever has prongs that engague slots in the control shaft in the pump, loosen the bolt that holds the lever on and see if the prongs are in the slots.
