Did you by chance take the steering unit apart to "fix" it? If so you put it back together wrong. The timing of the various components inside is off and it is not reacting as it should to your manual inputs.

If you did take it apart, yes there are a lot of items in there that have to be installed by aligning marks or features of the parts. I am attaching a repair procedure that I believe covers your system. You will have to look at the last page and see if your torque generator numbers match any of those in the list. And unfortunately the numbers are on the mounting surface against the gauge plate. If you have any questions Google Midwest Steering Independence, MO and give them a call. Their site is where I found the diagram and also where I bought my seal kit. I did not entirely disassemble my unit, I knew they are very finicky about proper assembly and only carefully pulled off the end caps and resealed the in an out shafts. Good luck!

And to add concerning the proper connection of the hoses I am attaching a link to an older post that shows proper hose connection on an M. The photo I am referring to is in 10th reply. I confirmed this with a photo I have of the one on my M, for me it is just easier to post the link than to resize the photo off my phone to post. So if installed as shown looking at the left side of the tractor the top hose is the pressure or supply hose. Also may help to know if you have a belt driven pump or if it is supplied by a priority valve off the live hydraulics? Which would be an option for your tractor, going by your forum handle as it being a Super MD.
