So I was asked what a guy tractor was worth. Has front end loader. Gas runs ok but has boat gas tank on it due to rust in the stock tank. Tires are 75% or better all the way around. Come with a brush hog and maybe more. I told him as it sits with the hog $3000-5000. So am in in the ball park

So how did he mount the boat gas tank on the tractor? I can't really visualize there being any place that it would not be awkward/clumsy and in the way. Those tractors have a tendency to rust between the sides and the fenders, especially ones that get parked outside. And I believe these tanks are scarce too. Might be a good aftermarket market for them-if someone remanufactured them. Mark.

It has a sort rops/brush guard behind the seat and he made a bracket for the tank to sit on

besides the gas tanks rusting out on those 574's, dont they have hydraulic issues? pto, brakes , steering issues. are those tractors a bad design or are they pretty good ?

Very little from what I can see. I've used it a few times on the guys place brush hogging and also a bit of loader work and it run fine other then a bit on the rich side

About the main weakness on these tractors is the brakes. Some last longer than others, but the o ring seals usually fail, and you lose brakes. The main problem is all the labor involved in replacing the o rings because they are in the axles. Mark.

was the brake system a good design or not so good ? i would think from a owners view it would be bad because of the cost involved to fix them,

This guy is one of those who does oil changes etc. and all as he should or did up till he got COPD so bad he could not longer do much. Reason he took the old tank of was because of rust causing lot of problems

I am not really familiar with other tractors as much, but I worked on a lot of these for a couple of years after I retired. Brake jobs were the most common repair of all. Really not hard to do if you have a way of lifting rear tires, fuel tank,(which has to be drained),seat platform and the axles. I think it took me between 6 and 10 hrs, depending on circumstances. The parts for both sides would be less than $100. The o rings usually showed being flattened on the sides. Mark.

I'd say you are probably in the ball park for a gas burner. Diesels just about always sell higher, at least in my area.

I'm guessing part of the reason for the boat tank is that the factory tank mounts between the rear fenders, is pretty expensive to buy, it can be hard to find a good used one, and I understand it can be a bear to remove/reinstall.
