IH574 gas loosing hyd oil

So I have been working on this 574 on and off. The guy who owns it had some one using it to do some brush hogging and it got low on hyd oil. I cannot find any place that is leaking. Engine oil level does not change so not going into the engine. No visible sign of oil leaking at ant of the fittings or loader cylinder or at the control. No oil dripping any place that I can see. I even ran it for a while running the brush hog and never did see a leak any place. So where might i be going??

Hi Old, on the 574 the hydraulic pump is in the trans/diff case, the most common place for leaks is at the steering hand pump and usually oozing up underneath the steering wheel or dripping done on top of the transmission case by the clutch pedal, next the PB master cylinder and lines and also the hydraulic lines that from from the MCV up under the seat, I have never seen the oil cooler or lines leak but there is always the first time.
Inside the bell housing it can leak around the trans/PTO input shaft and the cover over the end of the PTO shaft and it usually drips out of the clutch inspect plate on the bottom of bell housing.

I am assuming it is not around the hydraulic filter.

Is it really leaking or is it just the way the hydraulic oil is being checked? On those tractors the only way to get a correct hydraulic oil level check is to check it after it has been sitting on the level and the engine running at a fast idle for at least 5 to 10 minutes, reason this allows the transfer pump to level out the oil level in the different compartments in the trans/diff case and if the transfer pump is not working properly the oil may accumulate in one compartment and if you are going up or down a steep hill you may lose PS or PB or PTO and that is the reason for overfilling by 5 gallons.

This one is missing the dip stick but I have been using a zip tie to measure the fluid level. It was down from what I checked a couple days ago and the guy who had been using it said the steering got hard and jerky but after he had been using it. I added a coupe of gal. of oil today and used it for say 30 or so minutes and did not have any problem and cannot see any oil leaks any place. No dripping oil any place and all area you say are dry not oil covered.

I have a IH584 which in many way are the same but mine is diesel and and was burnt one time so the dash etc are missing. Mine leak oil just below the steering wheel so know that leak and also mine leaks at the steering cylinder. So I'm pretty sure I know what to look just not see where it is going

I do not know. But I do know in this case the fact the owner has lost the dip stick it makes it a bit hard to know what the oil level is and should be

Old, make a dipstick using the dipstick from your 584 as a pattern, same tractor from bell housing back except if your 584 was a late model it may have the "H" pattern shift.
You could take the clutch inspect plate off and see if hydraulic oil runs out but normally it drips as there is no gasket on the inspection plate.

I did look at the steering cylinder and did not see any oil but could a leak while steering and I cannot be at the steering wheel and as the cylinder at the same time

This 574 and my 584 have the same shift pattern and the lever look and work the same. Has 4 position on the one side and high/low and reverse on the other lever

If he is using the remote coupler on the back the o0rings in the couplers can leak if the o-rings get chipped or cut. or if the tips in the coupler get damaged. The steering leak at the wheel is an easy fix. You can do it without pulling the hand pump. If it is leaking down on the bottom end than it will have to come out to fix that. The brakes master cylinders may leak though not real likely. I would suspect maybe the brake piston, inside the wheel and trans housing is leaking.

You say that hyd oil is low ..... I hope you don't put hydraulic oil back in because this will do damage
There are a number of places which could leak and are
Difficult to find. Also is the oil cooler at front blocked?

Old - I don't know where your oil is going, but for your missing dipstick - On my 574 gas, it is 8 1/8 inches from the top flange of the tube to the tip of the stick, the full line is at 7 inches.

I did not look at the wheels for oil guess I'll have to next time I go there. I did look it over pretty good and find no place where there is fresh oil leaking so sort of hard to figure out with out signs. As for the steering seal at the top you say easy to fix so explain please my 584 leaks there
