M quitting-intermittent

I have an M Farmall that quits from time to time. The tractor is in great shape, rebuilt carburetor, governor, 12 volt negative ground, alternator, electronic ignition, wiring is excellent. I have a good stream of gas at the carb. It always starts back up after a couple of seconds, and it might die again, or work for three hours til I shut it off. I have to be missing something simple. I think it is a fuel issue, but it has good gas flow, however I know someone once said that 75% of all fuel problems are electrical. Thanks for the guesses. Ellis

My M would just quit for no reason once in a while. I found out it was a problem with the push/pull switch. If I turned the knob there was a spot that didn't make contact.

Hook a test light to the supply side of the coil If it goes out when it quits, it is in the supply side. Jim

Hot wire it and see if the problem goes away. If it does then you have a problem from the coil back. If it does not help then the problem is likely to be inside the distributor

I had the same exact problem a couple years ago with my M. It would suddenly stop running for no apparent reason. I'd check the points and jiggle wires and it would eventually start and run normally again for a while.

I eventually found a poor crimp connection on this wire between my coil and my distributor. I replaced the wire and both ring connectors and that fixed my problem.

Mine had been converted to 12 volts before I bought it.

This may not be your problem, but it was for me. And it took me a while to find.

One of my H's acted like that.

There was a chip of wood in the gas tank that had sunk to the bottom and occasionally would block the outlet in the bottom of the tank. When the engine stopped, there was no demand for gas and it would float away, allowing gas flow again.
