i am in the process of replacing water pump on farmall 140. i started to say the old timers, and then i realize that i am one of them. ha ha... the old timers used to put axle grease on each side of the water pump gasket, when they were replacing. is this still a good method? is there a better way?

I use spray on copper coat. a even thin covering of both sides. Getting it off for the next pump change is either not my problem, or minor if some how it foils to last 20 years. Jim
