Farmall H Countershaft Nut Woes

Hello all! Well, in finishing the teardown of the H transmission case, all that is left is to remove the countershaft assembly and reverse idler assembly. I
am having a heck of a time getting the countershaft nut off. I have heated it 3 times with my oxy/acetylene setup, used lubricant, used my air impact, tried
a large brass chisel/punch and dead-blow hammer... Nothing seems to budge this thing. Any other tricks you can throw at me to try? I am at a loss on what to
try next and this is the only thing preventing me from making progress. The one on my M did not give me NEARLY this amount of trouble. Any help is
appreciated. (Photos of the countershaft nut, the tool I made, etc.)

welp myself i have never run into one that would not come off but my impact has no sense of humour , either things come off or something breaks . it is one of the last U S made C P's and will twist a grade 8 5/8th bolt in a heart beat.

Like Bob said it's right hand threads. Tip I use when doing a repair with transmission top off is before removing the other gears slide some together to lock counter shaft from turning and get the nut loose first. If the liftall unit locked up due to damage sometime in the tractor life that can contribute to your problem.

Right hand threads. I would also suggest that you install the top shaft of the transmission so you can shift two gears in mesh to lock the bottom shaft solid. Much more solid compared to trying to hold the shaft with your hand when trying to use the impact wrench to break the nut loose.

Yep it turns Counterclockwise. To hold it put the PTO in gear and slide a yoke on it and a bar through the yoke to keep it from turning. (or a pipe wrench on the straight part of the yoke with a pipe to the ground or hitch. Use a 3 foot piece of 1.2 inch By 2 inch steel for a wrench and push it down with your foot. Jim

I had one I cut off in pieces to save the shaft. Ordinarily you take that nut loose before removing the top shaft. That way you lock it in two gears, put a bar through the slot and stomp on it. Was no impact wrench in shop when I first started working on those.

What usually happens to make them so tight is spring failure in pump locks the pump gears and some times it strips the threads on that nut or just tightens it extremely tight. Also, excessive high pump pressure I have seen the threads stripped.

Had one on a H that wouldn't come off. I took a shaft that drives the pump, cut a end off and welded it inside a 3/4 drive socket and used a impact to remove the nut.
