856 tank heater install

I am in the process of installing a KAT tank heater and I am a little confused on hose placement. I found a port on the left side, under the oil cooler that I thought would be a good entrance to the heater. I was going to dump it at the thermostat, but the only port is on top of the cap. This seems to be backwards to me. Isn t that on the wrong side of the thermostat? Any help is very appreciated as winter has come very early for us here!

(quoted from post at 07:39:08 10/13/19) Just a thought, wouldn't a frost plug heater be easier to install?

Already have one. But the tank is much higher wattage and with temps that can get down to -20 or lower the frost plug, even with an oil pan heater, it helps, but it s hard on the old girl.

I'm not familiar with this application but in general if you have a cab heater I've seen them teed into heater hose, if no heater look for plugs in water pump and/ or
head where a heater would be hooked up. Hope this gives you some ideas.

I am unfamiliar with IH, but on Deere 20
and 40 series tractors, we have tank
heaters plumbed so they discharge warm
coolant into the cylinder head. There
should be a plug somewhere on your head
for that.

If that is a Diesel, behind the final diesel filter is where the hot water goes,, i get the cold water from the bottom of the radiator, all on the right side of a 806 Diesel .I had a Kats tank heater on their for at least 50 years,Just feel the top hose and see if it's working!

Hook hose where you are thinking. Take water temp sending unit out of top of head put pipe nipple and tee in that hole. put temp sending unit in top of tee and put hose on open fitting. That way you only heat block and head. No use to radidtor. Works good

on the left side there is a block drain remove it and tee the block hook one side of the tee to the bottom of the block heater and put the block drain
back in the other side of the tee. on the right side of the head remove the temp sender and tee the hole run a hose from the top of the heater to the
tee and put the temp sender back in the tee try to get the sender as close to the head as possible. a 150 watt heater is the smallest i would use an
1800 would be better in colder weather
