Adding a Loader to a 68 IH 444

Any help on how to plumb a new "used" loader to my IH 444. I just got the loader, my tractor has never had one, any help will be appreciated. I am not sure where to start.

What you going to use for hyd pressure, how much reservoir do you have,have you got a lot of wheel weight or fluid in the rear tires to compensate for the weight that going to be in the bucket. As far as plumbing the loader what you going to use a separate control valve or tractor hyd ?
 
If you want to use the rear valves for other things then find a power beyond plate for it. Then plumb a valve to that for the loader. You will be much happier with that type of set up in the long run.
 
To add to the list of questions:
1) Make and model of loader?
2) Does your 444 have remote hydraulic outlets?
3) Does loader have up/down pressure(double acting cylinders) and a hydraulic bucket?

Picture of tractor and loader and loader hydraulic valves would be helpful.

1 - I want to use the tractor hydraulics
2- I will add counter weight as needed depending on round bale weight (I have a 3 point tiller that is very heavy)
3- I am attaching pictures as requested
4- My main question is where do I tap into the system for Pressure and return?
5- The loader will be the only implement added

Hi Rick, your 444 has the normal hydraulic setup for a USA crated 444 with the single hydraulic pump and a hydraulic splitter to
split off about 3 GPM for the power steering.
Your hydraulic valves look correct, could you please post a photo of the bottom side of the hydraulic valve.

Next question: do you want to have the ability to use the loader and a 3pt implement like a back blade at the same time?
OR only the loader? This is the cheapest hookup but not the most convenient.
The most convenient and allows both loader and 3pt to be used together.

See photo below showing a 444 industrial with the loader hydraulic valve setup for using both loader and 3pt at same time.

You can see that the left hydraulic hose is connected to the output of the splitter and to the input of the hydraulic valves and
the output of the hydraulic valves is connected via a hydraulic hose to the input of the 3pt control valve in front of the seat.

I have more photos than I will post later tomorrow as I am travelling.

Good Morning Jim,
My plan is to use this tractor only to stack hay bales. I will put my Aerator on the 3point for counter weight only and then just use the loader to stack hay. I was unsure what value you wanted more pictures of so I tried to shoot them all.

Hi Rick, I just wanted to see if the loader control valve had a separate return port on the bottom/top and yours doesn't.
Was the loader installed on a 444 type tractor before?, I am assuming the loader control valve is for open center hydraulic system as most older tractors only had open center hydraulics.
With reference to the photo below:
1) Verify that the existing steel hydraulic line from the hydraulic splitter, top of photo with blue line and 3PT actually goes to the bottom of the photo to the steel line that goes into the 3PT control
valve at the front of the seat.
2) This high pressure steel hydraulic line will be removed and replaced with two flexible rubber hydraulic lines.
3) The first rubber hydraulic line will connect from the output of the hydraulic splitter where the steel line used to connect to the input of the loader control valve (blue line) and the second rubber
hydraulic line will connect from the output of the loader control valve to the input of the 3PT control valve at the front of the seat(blue line).

To make the hydraulic hoses neat, the most difficult is the connection to the 3PT control valve at the front of the seat. This requires a 90 degree elbow with a short extension.
Anywhere one of the rubber hydraulic lines contact metal take an old chunk of garden hose or car heater hose and split it length wise and place it over the hydraulic line and secure with cable ties.
IH used to sell a kit for this but that was like 50 years ago but what some owners have done is taken the steel hydraulic line that was removed and have it cut in the proper locations and a new hydraulic
connector installed on the steel line to connect to the flexible rubber line. You can see that in the photo of the yellow 444 that I posted yesterday.

Your question "Was the loader installed on a 444 type tractor before?" - It was on an IH504. (see attached Picture)

I have verified the pressure line as requested see the attached picture

It looks like all I need to do is to insert the Loader control valve into the steel line with 2 flex hoses. Did I get it right?

Do you think I will have any issues with the size of the Hydraulic pump running 4 cylinders on the loader?

Hi Rick,
Questions:

1) you are correct, insert 2 flex hose into steel line. Since loader came off an IH 504 it is an open center hydraulic system same as 444, just verify that
on the loader control valve that the port next the relief valve is labelled IN but almost always that is the norm.

2) We ran an IH 434 one generation older than 444 and an IH 384 one generation newer than 444 with IH 1550 loader for years with the same setup
but our tractors were the UK models with two 6 GPM pumps ganged together, one pump ran 3pt and the other ran power steering. The USA crated
model like your 444 has a 10 GPM pump with a splitter that splits 3 GPM for power steering and 7 GPM for 3 pt, so your setup actually has 1 more
GPM for loader/3pt.

The only short coming of these tractors is the small capacity of the hydraulic reservoir under the seat, when you connect the loader you will have to
keeping adding hydraulic oil and work the loader to purge the air out then add more oil then work and purge again.
This can become messy as you want to leave the hydraulic filler plug just screwed in a few threads enough to hold it but still let air escape otherwise
until you get all the air out you could get a HOT hydraulic oil shower when you open the filler plug.
