Super MD engine parts

Hi there, bought a Super MD a couple weeks ago knowing it was seized, pistons, sleeves, and rings have to be replaced, I can find everything I need to replace the current 4" bore pistons, rings and sleeves, but would anyone know if or where I could get the 4 1/8" oversize kit? Or even any parts for the 4 1/8" Just curious as im replacing everything anyways, may as well upgrade if I can, to me the hard part would be finding the thinner sleeves as well as the head gasket. Or anyone know of an engine with the same hardware? That I could cross reference parts from it? Thanks!

The head gasket is the same on the 4" D264 and 4.125" D281 engine. Finding the 4.125 kit wont be easy or cheap, figure $2500 for sleeves, pistons and rings. Rod and main bearings will be around $600, cam bearings are only available thru Bates Corp at roughly $350, full engine gasket set is around $600. You need to take into account if it beeds pump or injector work this can easily be another $12-1500 then machining cost of cylinder head/engine. Figure at a minimum $6000 to overhaul the engine and thats not touching everything, i had a considerable amount more in my Super MD engine overhaul last year.

I actually used the thing in my head and figured i dont need a bigger head gasket :D , cuz the sleeves on these stick up abit, so its just the id that changes not the od, and ya, I know it'll be pricey, im in no rush anyways, just lookin over my options if i do want to go to 4 1/8 or just stay at 4, and for simplicity sake might just stick with 4, easier to find and slightly cheaper but we'll see

Didn't know you could find the original thick sleeve to keep it at 4 inches. All the sets I have
seen are thin wall sleeves like making a regular M into 4 inch and a Super M into 4 1/8.

Weird, for me its been the opposite, I have found a few sites with the 4" bore sleeves, pistons and rings, but only 1 with the 4 1/8" sleeves and rings, i cant find the larger piston

Although I have seen many kits for both 4 and 4 1/8 for gas tractors, at a quarter of the price as the diesel ones too. There a lot of sites that stock the gas kits, not so much for the diesel that im lookin for

Some places say they have the parts by piece. Try searching for Sleeve 277076R1. piston 277077R1 and ring set 277079R91.

Ok, I bought a parts book online with those numbers, went to the case dealer here yesterday and they said they were all dead numbers, ill try searching them online, thanks!

Bate Corp had sleeve listed new. Jim Warehime would probably know if they have them for sale. Place in California showed pistons
new. Can't say if they really do or not. Rings can be found.

Ok, I was checking places in town, no "company" had them, went to a couple machine shops that deal with stuff like this and they are gonna check too

I have a complete engine/motor in a 400 diesel that I am parting out with not many hours on an overhaul. Starts & Runs good. If you are interested, give me a call @ 620-344-1923.

I bought the last 5 NOS 4.125 sleeves and pistons the California suppier had, i wouldnt recommended using the aftermarket sleeves that are being offered currently as they are having issues with proper fit and sleeve protrusion above block not being correct. If you can find 4 good used postons i have a source for new sleeves made of USA ductile iron which is stronger then your typical sleeve for these engines. You would have to get the machine shop to install and final bore and hone the sleeves on a boring bar as they are not sold as a finished product. They want them pressed into the block before final bore to insure proper fit and it does not crack. Be looking around 1000 for sleeves alone. Depending on which piston brand you get ring sets are available thru Hastings. The IH piston Dslater gave you a number for requires a Keystone cut top ring so be mindful of that when buying rings. Clevite and NOS IH are the best to look for in terms of quality.

about 10 years ago I bought clevite sleeves for my w400 with 4 1/8 bore and paid 60 some dollars each. crazy how the price went to the sky.
