I know sometimes serial numbers would be stamped if tractors were worked on at dealers for recalls etc. Was wondering if anyone knows what theses
letters mean after the serial number? Thanks Gary

IH serial number, S=t/a with a IPTO if installed. Y= 12 GPM hydraulic pump, Then probably a chassis modified by chissum rider company and there serial number and HC a high crop or high clearance tractor. Not sure about the spelling on the company name.

Chisholm Ryder was a manufacturer of specialized harvesting equipment. They took IH "skid unit" tractors and built them into their equipment. You will occasionally run across a tractor that has been "extracted" from one of these harvesters such as yours.

These tractors will often be missing things, such as rear hitches, and even complete hydraulic systems, as shortcuts were often taken in converting the tractors back to tractors due to the cost of sourcing the original parts.

chisholm usually also stamped their # and changed other parts
would need photos to see if more than std HC model
