684 D239 injection pump

My VA pump is fixing to lay down on me. For a few years now it has been losing prime allowed to sit, and the periods of time that it takes to lose prime are getting shorter. I added an electric pump to push fuel to it and it seems to help. But now when cold it surges and sputters. Dieseltech, you mentioned this before so where can I obtain a Bosch VE pump for this engine? Is it a direct bolt on? What about the injector lines?
Thanks,
Danny

The Bosch pump you need is 0 460 404 052, VE4/10F 1150 R 283. Injector lines will work fine, my notes say pump was used on IH 584 and 585 models, dial indicator is used to time this pump as there's no side cover like the VA has. Uses two bolt mount same as the VA also.

Thanks for the info Deiseltech! I don't suppose you know where one could lay hands on such an animal do you? I found 2 sources but their core charge is $1500. I assume they wouldn't take a VA as a core.
Thanks,
Danny

Hi, before replacing the pump, I would check for good fuel flow to the pump, air leaks in the lines and plugged fuel tank breather
line.
Does the pump leak diesel into the crankcase?

All that checked out fine a couple years ago. It was dribbling fuel at the IP though. I worked on it for hours before I decided to add an electric lift pump. It started right up after that, but it dribbles more fuel from the IP now that something is pushing it. It's slowly gotten worse over time, as most mechanical problems do. It may be just fine with new gaskets, but I'd rather spend the money on a VE which you can still get parts for.

Had some VA pumps recently that had leaks, ran fine after a complete tear down and reseal. Let the owners know to take good care of the fuel system and they'll run a long time, but good luck finding parts if they get abuse. Have a 756 pump that needs the hydraulic head, it's gutted from poor filter care.

I've owned this tractor since 1991, it was 10 years old when I bought it and had 1100 hours on it. 24 years later it has 1870 hours on it. It has sit quite a bit which I am sure doesn't help the IP much as far as seals and gaskets go.
