1942 Farmall H Memorial Project: Another Update

Hello all! Well, we have made a bit of progress on the 1942 H. Last night we buttoned up the engine for good. All that is left is to adjust the valves, mount the manifold, carb and magneto which I will do when the engine is back in the tractor. A fresh governor rebuild, water pump rebuild, top to bottom sleeves, pistons, bearings, seals, valves, guides, springs, seats, etc.... Nearly everything has been done. The only thing we didn't have to do was the cam bearings which measured out just fine.

Next on the list is the front bolster rebuild. We have a new lower shaft with worm gear, new sector gear, new U-joint, new steering wheel, all new seals, bearings and bushings. My question for everyone is - are there any tips to rebuilding the bolster? The only thing that I am somewhat nervous about are removing those big bushings. Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated!

After the bolster, all that is left is all new seals in the rear end and hydraulic pump. Then it is off to sandblast, prime, and paint!

Is that a Case to the right? You may have started something: "Case-IH"!
PS: Nice job on the motor

Thanks, Bob! It is coming along! As much as I LOVE them original, I can't wait to see it all shined up. Going to be a one-of-a-kind H, that is for sure!

Yessir! That is my 1941 Case SC Center Exhaust. Grandpa saved it from the salvage yard in the early 1970's, and when he passed in 1993 it was left for dead. I drug it out of the woods and saved it. It's my trailer queen, but is still a work in progress. I love the early SC's though! Here is a before and after. First photo is the first known photo of it in our family.. Second is just a month ago.

ken , i cant remember if i rebuilt a h bolster, but i did an m not long ago. the bushings drive out the bottom. i used a sleevepuller puck and a length of allthread to pull the lower bushing in. the upper i used a pipe nipple, one inch or so to match the od of the bushing. also the lower bushing has a hole that will line up with the grease zerk. no big deal if you miss, just remove the zerk and drill a new hole. if you dont have a puck, see if somebody has a lathe that can make you one.
