All,

I have seen a few 110 front side mounts for sale on 300s etc. Was curious did they have a break back function? Also what years era did they make them. And, Why didn't they front side mount idea stay around longer. Looks sharp to me.

i am not sure of the model number. i have a side, front mount. it does not have a break back feature. it stops the tractor.
this mower was used for governments and such and was a great mower for right of ways and soforth. i suspect that the mower was too pricey for most.

We had a new one of those balanced head mowers hanging on the side of a Farmall M with a conditioner pulled behind. I did most of the mowing at that time and it really worked nice, don't remember a break away on it though.

Haybines killed the side mount mower. You went from having two machines, one of which tied up the tractor or at least made it inconvenient to use for other purposes, to one machine that could be easily unhooked from the tractor in a few minutes.

Remember that sickle mowers were the primary hay making tools at one time. They were only relegated to mowing roadsides and fencelines after the haybine came along.

The 110 mower does trip. Made during the 60's. Side mounted mowers are difficult to mount and remove(at least most). Add this to most farms of the time had only one or two tractors that had to perform all task and most during the same few days. So most farmers went for a rear mounted or trail mower. Also disc mowers caught on and replaced sickle mowers in many areas.

have 115 s and rear mounts
it should have a partial break open and stop to keep it from going under tire
