Hydro tranny oil change question

I had the hydro on my 656 gasser replaced with a Herr's rebuilt about a year ago and they told me to change the oil after about 50 hours. I wasn't sure how to drain the tranny so I did some searches on the interweb and found a post from a guy who said the easiest way to drain the oil was to plug a hose into one of the hydraulic outlets and pull the lever open until all the oil was pumped out into a barrel. Less messy than trying to drain it out of a drain plug underneath. Will this work and will it get all the oil out or will there still be some oil that needs to drain through the plug? Also, where is the drain plug underneath the tractor? I know there is a cover on the right side of the tractor that has to come off to change the filter and there is another small spin on filter in front of the foot and inch pedal that needs to be replaced. Anything else I need to do when I change the oil?

There will be considerable oil left in with that method. I you do go that route,be sure to shut down immediately when oil coming from hose starts to spurt less than solid stream. Might be safer on a hydrostatic drive to just drain all plugs right off the bat because you need to drain all plugs anyway. Another thing, the oil fills center section when engine is running so that won't drain until shut down.

The Pump will be subject to possible damage draining that way. You could put a pump in your drain pan to empty it as it drains out. Less fooling around than with pouring it into containers.

So gear drive will have three, so you will need to look under the tractor for sure. The one for the rear end my be hidden by the hitch, usually a large plug.

Have you tried calling Herr's Machine that the Hydro unit came from? From speaking to them at RPRu's, seem like very nice guys & helpful.
