Hi all, recently ordered a new hydraulic lift piston for my b275,1960 model, through Yesterday's only to find it too big for the cylinder it goes into..So now trying to repair original piston.A (bushing) oil seal is still available according to IH/Case but the oil seal retainer(snap ring) is not...Can anyone help me identify the broken part on the piston to the left in the screen shot? The other piston is the newer that won't fit. It is 3in wide the original piston is 2 3/4 inch...any advice would be appreciated thank you danc

"Can anyone help me identify the broken part on the piston to the left in the screen shot?"

Looks to me like parts of the piston cup seal, part #3070699R1.

Remove circlip and seal retainer, slide new seal in place, and reinstall retainer and circlip.

Thanks Bob, forgive me, don't have much experience tracking parts... In the Case/IH catalog parts section under heading of hydraulic attachments Schematics it appears parts #12 and or #13 respectively 704368r1 and 704367r1 are called for though from what I gather only #70436r1 is available, described as an oil seal. So where would I find part #3070699r1? It looks like an IH #. appreciate the help
the part #3070699r1?

IIRC the older B-250 and B-275s had a leather piston seal and that pieces from the old piston that are showing are the remnants of the leather seal.

Maybe JDEM or MJ in UK will answer here with more knowledge.

Great, thx Iimb2! Maybe we'll her fixed yet.... my thought is the piston in the photo, the broken part seems more plastic than leather, however I have another parts tractor and its pistons seal is intact and now that you mention leather it does have that appearance..also the design is slightly different. I had thought to use it but I'm told it would likely fail. So if I can chase down the part# Bod mentioned that might do it! Thx again

I think that the B250s and B275s with the old style hydraulic system (No Draft Control and the one 3pt lever down by front right of seat) used a smaller hydraulic piston with a leather seal and later B275s and
B414s with draft control (Two 3pt levers on right side of the seat) used a larger hydraulic piston with traditional O-ring seals.

Just a small update, have found and ordered the piston oil seal Bob suggested.. yes my tractor is the old style, no draft control, one three Point lever to the right of the seat... it is a great running tractor. I hope I can get the hydraulics fixed.. only other issue is fuel pump weeps somewhat.... thanks I'll let you know what happens danc
