no oil pressure alarm?

Was looking at a friend's Super M today that has a switch of some kind on the right rear lower area of the engine block. We believe it to be a protection for low or no oil pressure if this switch is wired into the ignition line to the coil. It measures closed (.2 ohm) with engine running or stopped. There are no wires connected probably because the switch seems bad.

Is this an oil pressure alarm switch? If so, is it an IHC item or aftermarket?

Likely to be a oil pressure switch used (at some point) to energize an alternator when the engine is running, and shutting off exciter voltage when the engine is stopped. No switches were original. It is likely a failed part. Is there an alternator on it? Jim

Could be for a hour meter, but they were usually installed near the middle of the lower right block in that oil gallery opening. It was a available attachment for a SM.

How many terminal are there on the switch? In order to excite an alternator it would take 2 terminals. If the switch is a switch for the old hour meters there was only one terminal, it was used to ground the hour meter. Some place in my tool box I think I may have the installation instructions for one of these hour meters.

I was out there with Ron. Here is a picture of the switch. Sorry for the poor quality. The sun was bright and there was a lot of reflection.

Need to compare after bit to what I have laying around, but looks just like the one used with the electric hour meter attachment
on a SM.
