Sheppard Diesel in a Farmall F Series?

I love taking photos of old farm machinery, on a recent visit to a farm near my house I was being shown around by the owner and they pointed out a tractor that they claimed to be rare. I snapped a photo of it and it wasn't until later when I was sorting through the photos I had taken that I saw it had a 3 cyclinder Sheppard Diesel engine. The owner wasn't exactly sure what it was as it had been given to him following the passing of his uncle. The owner claimed it to be a Farmall 'Regular' Diesel. I am unfamilair with this early of equipment and would love if someone could help! (The attached photo is the only photo I took while I was there as it wasn't very easy to get to and was surrounded by other junk)

Yes, I've seen Sheppard Diesels in Farmalls, I've seen Detroits in them too. It's all aftermarket conversions. IH didn't put those engines in at the factory.

There was a guy around here with a big collection that had both Sheppard tractors and Farmalls with Sheppard Diesels in them. That collection was sold off over a year ago, no idea where those tractors may have gone to.

Farmall M with a Sheppard diesel repower. Essentially a Sheppard SD3 engine transplanted into an M.

Not common but there are a few out there. I've spotted over 2 or 3 at shows here in NY and in PA.

My history may be off, but the "regular" was no longer being made when Sheppard started his business, so no way could IH have put
a Sheppard in a regular.

AFIK the Sheppard diesel was never installed at the IHC factory. Rather they were all aftermarket conversions.

Incidentally I recall once spotting an F20 with a Sheppard diesel conversion. Don't remember however whether it was a 2 cylinder or 3 cylinder.

by what I can see in the picture . there is two shift levers by the post under steering wheel. one for trans speed. one for belt pulley

The Farmall M diesel was introduced in 1941, so if you wanted a diesel, you could get one direct from IH. The Sheppard conversion came along later. I have been told that the 3 cylinder diesel was the quickest way to transform a stout M into performing like an H.

It was marketed for the ?M?. The SD-3 engine was only 188.5
cubic inches displacement, so presumably you would lose
power.
