F-20 clutch shaft splines worn

About 2/3 of each spline on the shaft is worn away. The yoke that slides onto the shaft that connects to the transmission is is perfect shape. Before I took it apart, I noticed there was a lot of slop in the coupling area.

Can I weld the splines back up, then maybe turn it back down on the lathe and fix the splines in the mill?

Would welding on the shaft warp it too much?

I also have thought about just putting it back together and jamming a couple pieces of 3/32 tig wire in where each spline is worn to tighten it all back up. Maybe even use some jbweld to kelp keep it tight, but that would make disassembly down the road a pain.

On a tractor that won t ever do much more than pull a wagon for the rest of its life, is is even worth doing any more than bandaiding it back together?

You can certainly weld the splines back up, then turn the shaft in a lathe and then recut the splines on a mill. I actually fixed of those once before I had a lathe and mill by welding up one worn spline at a time and then grinding and filing until it fit into the yoke and then going on to weld up and grind and file the next one. I did each one in turn until all 6 were done and it worked just fine!
