Hey guys, got a question. I am a small hobby farmer. My biggest tractor is a 504. My question is, will my 504 pull a gehl 315 Maurer spreder ok? Mostly bedpack I'll be spreading. I'm getting a pretty good deal on the manure spreader. Thanks

Not sure if this will help, but when I was a younger man I worked for a neighbor who was a dairy farmer. He had a 504 gas row crop hooked to a large single axle IH spreader under the gutter cleaner. It made load after load of wet heavy poo mixed with straw. It hauled day after day, month after month for years. Only time it had trouble was in deep snow. Over all that was one tough tractor. AL

not sure how big a spreader that is. but gehl has been out of the farm equipment business for many years now.they only do construction equipment now.

yes it is a nice tractor, I was just wondering if a 315 gehl manure spreader would be to big. Thanks for ur reply

I googled one and think if it is truly the front beater tandem V spreader it is too big. I wouldn't go much over 150-180 bushel single axle.

I have a 504. I used to have a 315 before I switched to Knight/Kuhn spreaders. I pulled the 315 with a 966. I wouldn't use the 504 to pull a 315
empty on pavement.

The short answer? Pull it, yes. Run it, maybe. Stop it, not hardly. Far, far to big a spreader for a 504. Start off a hill with that thing loaded down and it'll
shove you all over the place before it turns the tractor over on you. My 175 bushel Case spreader shoves my 300 around a little when loaded, so I can't imagine
what that thing would do to a 504. I'd try to find a smaller spreader if I were you.

Side slinger manure spreaders are a bad choice for spreading bedpack anyway. We had two Knight side slingers over the years, one single auger and one double auger, and they both plugged in epic fashion unless you were VERY careful about how you loaded the bedpack... You had to shake it apart with the loader bucket and break it up as much as possible or it would just wind around the augers and jam the spreader tight. When spreading you open the door ALL the way, run the tractor at idle, and PRAY.

You would be much better served with a conventional box spreader. With bedpack you don't even need an endgate. Lots of those old New Idea 213's out there, perfect for behind a 504.

I would not use a 315 for pen pack. I spent many an hour trying to get pen pack through 3 different side slingers. No way.

504 would not handle it anyways. Too small and light.
