diode for excite wire

I ordered my diode IN5408 the picture shows only a thin wire at each end. How do you
connect this to the excite wire? I have made 2 other alt conversions but Used a toggle
switch both times. The white band goes toward the alt Right?

Use a plastic spoon handle as a splint. Put two small shrink tubing pieces on the soldered small to big wires, and shrink them. Put a bigger piece of shrink tubing over the whole thing and shrink it. Next use the spoon handle (minus the spoon bowl) as a splint to keep it from breaking where the wires exit the diode. Tape it evenly with 2 layers of vinyl tape, with the last layer smooth but not stretched tight. Band toward alt is correct. Jim

Another idea is to find weather packed mini fuse holders (flat blade style) and carefully press the leads into the female spade lugs.

I like the soldered connection however for integrity.

I have doubles the wire that is on the diode and then slip it into a crimp type connector and crimped it down and cover with heat shrink

Yes, the band goes toward the alternator.
