Couple of questions on a Regular

I wonder what the bracket on the front of the tractor is for. My son likes to start this tractor and the bracket is kind of close to him.

As for the magneto, I know it's not original but seems to work very good as the tractor starts easily but after it runs for a while we get a little coolant sometimes coming out the top. I assume as there is never any kickback on starting, it must be running retarded but the mag does not seem to have a setting change from starting to running. Is this a reason to alter the mag?

Thanks for all the great insights I get from reading here.

Regards,
Rob

I suspect the brackets are for mounting cultivators. My F14 has similar brackets and they are where the front cultivators attach.

there was an extension for the crank that went with the cultivators to move it out so you could start it without interference from the cultivators, similarly there was an even
longer extension for when there was a mounted corn picker on the tractor.

Thanks, I'm not certain I really want to take the bracket off and then forget where it was originally but starting would sure be safer.

Anyone have ideas about that Mag?

The Faibanks Morse mag was considered by some people to be a better mag than the IH. Chances are the original mag developed issues, and the owner got a better deal
on that one.

Thanks for the encouragement on this mag. It's my understanding the original mag had the rod connection to the steering wheel to switch from a retarded setting for starting to a running setting. There is no such rod now and so I was wondering if this mag auto switched from starting timing to running timing?
