exhaust lift control valve

My 44BN exhaust lift works fine except it won't stay up. I have cults for it but are not installed. The control valve seems to be the problem but I can't see anything amiss about it. It has a rubber seat (appears good) and round steel "plate" sits atop of the rubber seat. All looks fine. It looks like there should be a spring atop the plate to press it down a little onto the seat but if so, it is missing. Maybe I have it plumbed backwards. Any suggestions?

That sounds good but the cycl can leak also meaning piston leather is going sour and needs replacing. How long before it starts to leak down. You are sure the rubber washer is not hard so the brass washer cannot seat tight enough to hold the pressure. I have in the past took that washer and sanded it some to get the rubber "live" so the brass disc can make a good seal. You can still get those washers just mite need a new one. you can email [email protected] for more info if needed

Thank you for the reply. I finally found my parts diagram and didn't see anything there that I don't have. I'll look at the valve again and not put it back until I determine what is wrong.

You mentioned about a steel plate that seats on the washer. It should be a brass disc because being brass it weighs more and will not get a build up if yours isnt brass let me know as i do have some.

I didn't check but I imagine it is brass disc. Feels heavy for its size. The leak-down problem appears to have been the control valve pin. It was froze in the up position. Works fine now that its free. Looking for cultivator shanks now if you know of some. Thanks for the replies and helpful information.
