excite wire connection

Couldn't you just run a wire from the hot terminal on the coil for the excite wire with the diode on a 10S1 alt conversion?

That will work on those three wire units, to excite the alternator initially plus prevent run on with ignition off, I have used A) A Resistor B) A Diode C) An incandescent idiot light D) A resistor plus an incandescent idiot light in case the light burns out it still excites......? Subject to tractor and its switching arrangement there might be an ACC option or some use an oil pressure switch and I have even seen push or toggle switch arrangements when I was a used tractor dealer.

I take a old rectifier bridge, find a good diode from that and make my own diode for that 10si.

I'm wondering if the original question was prompted by the fact that most diagrams show that wire running all the way back to the ignition switch. It takes a lot less wire to run it to the coil since the ignition switch already has a wire going to the coil. I did my Minneapolis Molines that way also.

Either alone is OK. They would interact in a way that depended only on the resistor for keeping it from continuing to run. a 10 ohm 10 watt resistor works fine, or a diode that allows flow only toward the alternator #1 connection. Jim
