Cub Oil pump location? Part 3

Ok got oil to come out the oil pressure gauge hole. YEA. The gauge will not measure the pressure, the oil just squirt out about a 1/2"" I can block the oil it with my Finger, .. Now the 82 yr old man has not put a new filter, ,,That could be part of the problem ...or worn oil pump, . Can the oil pressure regulator on the block front side be adjusted to increase oil pressure? Thank you folks for the help that you given me so far.

The oil filter, cover and bolt must be installed for the gauge to read pressure. The gauge reads pressure in the oil filter housing.

The cub oil pump pumps into the oil gallery, and pressure regulator (which dumps its excess into the pan). A drilling from the oil gallery leads to a restriction that allows a small % of the pumped oil to go to the filter. less than 20%. if you see a 1/2inch stream of oil out of the filter inlet hole, it is pumping!! The filter housing fills with oil from the orifice, and may take time to fill. As it fills, the oil pressure will be unaffected. The oil passes from the outside of the filter to the inside where it drains back into the crankcase. the only time there is substantial pressure in the oil filter housing would be if the filter was plugged tight. I think it is now primed if the oil came out of that hole for even 30 seconds. Jim

Hey, I'll be 83 in less than two weeks. Elderly gentleman would sound better.

Perhaps you have the same problem I had on my cub years ago after an engine overhaul. No oil pressure! In the gear trains at front of the engine, there is an idler gear held in place with a bolt. I don?t recall the exact configuration but in my tractor, the retainer bolt was broken allowing the idler gear to slide forward but it remained in mesh, held by the front engine cover so the engine would still run fine. However when the gear slid forward an opening to the oil gallery was exposed releasing the oil back to the sump and hence no oil pressure. The mechanic that did the overhaul figured out the problem and fixed it no charge. Unfortunately to investigate this it will be necessary to pull all the front assembly off, then pull the front pulley and remove the front engine cover that covers all the valve train gears, etc.

It has been a while, but I am thinking there is a gallery oil plug in with the push rods behind the valve adjustment plate, and another one that is actually located behind the idler gear that runs the governor. Those plugs are removed by a shop when boiling out an engine to clean it, and sometimes do not get put back. There is a Farmallcub site that can probably help a lot.

The pressure regulator is a spring with a metal cup over the end. If that was not reinstalled properly it could cause that problem also..

Oil squirting about 1/2 inch out hole in oil filter is normal at cr4anking speed, but should squirt farther with engine running, and produce noticeable pressure on your finger,
