Hand Clutches

Recently, I ran onto a hand-clutch for a Super H that was simply bolted to the deck and controlled the clutch pedal. I know it isn't a factory job, but I am curious as to whether or not it was home-made or made by a shortline company. Does anyone have any photos of something similar? I didn't take any and can't find anything on the web other than the M&W units, and this was not one of those. I'd like to at least get some ideas as to how to make one for myself, as my left knee just isn't what it used to be, and Mrs. Mac doesn't have enough strength to mash the clutch completely down on the old 300. Plus, it'd be a curiosity at the local fair parade/show. Can anyone help, or at least point me in the right direction?

The image was made in inventor Just now. The oiece that bolts down has an offset to allow an extension over the edge lip of the platform (red chunk) Washers could be used to lift it, or a separate piece of plate, welded to the bottom. The Lever is a TA lever with latch and catch mechanism (not shown) to allow it to be pulled and latched back. Not to be used as a neutral for safety reasons. The rod should be made from 5/8 hardenable steel to handle the push force. The clutch pedal should have a hole made for the rod. or a bracket made to clamp on the pedal arm. Lengths and sizes are not given as they are not handy to me. I would imagine it to be at least 1/3 of the length of the pedal arm from the existing pivot point of the pedal on the brake shaft. I hope this inspires you. Jim

Thanks Jim, that's certainly a start. I wonder if it could be rigged in such a fashion as to be like the over-center JD hand clutch? I'm sure with some ingenuity that it could be. I'll have to also figure out how to mount it without interfering with the TA lever. Hmmm... lots to think about. Thanks everyone for the good ideas to start!

The new one could be rearward of the TA. I do not recommend an over center design, I have reservations even about using the "extra" TA handle latch in that the Farmall Throwout bearing is not intended to be a continuously applied device like a neutral. The Overcenter on a JD is in the design of the rotating assembly and though spinning, it is not under lever pressure. This would allow temporary latching for shifting or using hydraulics while steering? Jim

The O-4 tractors had an over-centre clutch, the tractor uses the same engine as the Framall H so I suppose it could be arranged. At least then the throw-out bearings would be designed for the over-centre operation. (The Modified O-12 was, I believe, the first IHC wheel tractor to get the over-centre clutch).

Although not a hand clutch this extension makes a lot of difference on a Super M.

I bought it on eBay. M & W and other companies made these, this one don't have a name on it. I don't know if it works on a TA tractor or not.

I do not think it would work at all because the travel distance of the clutch rod is a foundation of the TA clutch release timing. Jim

I found one on eBay. Item # 123709018303

$50.00 or best offer It's listed as M&W but I thought those were cast iron like mine. He also claims it works on Farmall H all the way through 450s but like I said before I'm not sure about the ones with the TA. Might be more on eBay, this is the first I found.
