Tractor has been running fine. This morning had to have the choke open a bit like it was cold outside. Had to continue with the choke so I thought maybe something in the gas and it would work itself out. After about 10 minutes of mowing the tractor just quit like it run out of gas. It would restart but only run about 3 seconds and quit again. Gas tank is full. Pulled the plug in the carb and had lots of gas running. I let it run a couple of minutes in case water was an issue.Tractor still starts, runs a couple of seconds and quits. Really thought it was a fuel issue when it originally stopped but can't imagine this is a fuel issue at this point after the flow out the carb. Can it be electrical. Tractor is 12 volt with a 6 volt coil and a resistor. I have 6 volts to the coil so electrical is good to that point. Tractor is sitting out in the field so I'm not going to try anything else until my wife gets home tonight and can help me tow it home.

If you feel you can do this safely, remove the carburetor bowl drain plug.

A half-cup or so of gas should rapidly drain, then the flow will slow down to what can pass through the needle and seat.

This flow has to be steady and adequate for what then engine needs to run.

That doesn't rule out a clogged main jet, but it at least shows the carburetor is getting enough gas to run the engine.

A failed coil can act just like that. If you ran gasoline out of the carb drain for a minute or more with good flow, Supply is not the issue. Voltage to the ignition is important, but a point gap of .020" when they are open on one of the 4 cam lobe tips is critical. Jim

I'm thinking that way too. I got the tractor back home tonight so its a lot easier to work on. I'll see what I can find tomorrow.

had same thing happen to me once on an 8n. took the line lose at the carb and sprayed wd-40 in the car and line. sputtered at first but ran great ever sense.
