Hello, I have a 1951 Farmall super A I'm in the need of a steering wheel, What Dia. wheel did they use on this tractor, EBay offers a 15" and a 17-5/8" steering wheel both stating they fit the Farmall Super A.

Also what holds the steering wheel on? I'm guessing a big nut ?? If yes mine has been twisted off, What do I do about that ??

Thanks, Dave

Both steering wheels fit but my A has the smaller one and my 100 has the larger one. To be correct you want the smaller one. Not sure what to do with the problem you have with the nut. It is held on by a big nut. You say your's is twisted off - like shaft it screws onto is broken off also? Maybe you will have to get another steering shaft.

If you buy or see a steering wheel, you will see it has a key way, and the shaft is cut for a half moon key,and put on a fine threaded nut you're in the driver seat!

15 inch was standard but the large one will make turning the wheel easier. Without the nut a new wheel will not seat tight enough and be loose might need to drill and tap a set screw on top of the key you just mite need another steering shaft I got one if you need it.

Another option in addition to the setscrew Gene mentions, is to center punch and drill the center of the broken shaft with a 5/16 drill, then tap the hole with a 3/8-16 tap. Use a washer or cup shaped washer and grade 5 bolt, to make sure the wheel stays on. Jim

How much for the steering shaft with shipping to 13166 NY ?
Whats involved with changing that steering shaft?
Thanks dave

remove the steering wheel and key then remove the big nut on the housing and just screw it out the front. Mite want to have a machine shop drill and tap like JA said I will check on UPS to your zip today 8-15
