1971 McCormick 434 IH Diesel Steering Problems

I have a McCormick 434 IH built around 1971. The steering gear box has bad upper and lower worm gear bearings. Im having trouble finding replacements. Anyone know where I might find the parts or even an entire assembly here in the U.S. I have tried every web sight I can find but no one seems to have them.

The bearings are simply 1/4" steel balls running in a replaceable outer race and directly on the steering "worm".

FIAT/dba CIH will have the races, are the bearing race areas that are machined into the worm OK, or is the worm "toast", as well?

FIAT/CIH has an on-line parts lookup app, and you can go there and get part numbers to take to the dealership, or search for them on-line.

(Dunno why so many folks are so unaware that the OEM still supports a lot of stuff going back a long time.)

steering. Through my searching, I
found this website that sells the
rebuild kit for a 434 though you
have to select the correct
bearing size.

They are in Canada, but they do
provide the option for shipping to uS.

Thanks Bob. The worm gear race is a little pitted but not to bad--I think it will work. I did find the part number on the parts list, I'm waiting to here back from the dealer on the OD of the listed ring race. Im being told it would work with a 55MM (2.16") OD ring race but mine is a 47.5MM (1.87") OD. I'm waiting for verification first.

Looks like the part number for the steering gear box thrust bearing is correct for the 434 IH. The guy who has it ordered for me got one in, he put the calipers on it and it measures 47.6MM OD by 31.85MM ID. I haven't got it yet because he is waiting on the other one along with the steel balls before shipping. I'm sure it is correct based on our conversation. So here is the P/N and description--787167R1 Ring Race Cup.ball. The P/N and description of the steel balls--3072885R1 BALL. 1/4" Dia.
