M hydraulics

I finally have my mcCormick 33 loader mounted my M now. Raises up really good, holds good, no leaks just does not lower smoothly. I have to push in with a bit of force on lever on JUST the last about 2in inches, then drops like a rock. they are replacement cylinders off a schwartz. I believe they had regular hydraulic fluid them so I switched my M to that, 6qts. I had 30 in it. tried to fill lines back up etc. read some post from a few yrs ago. don't think rod is bent or anything of that sort as it moves freely that last couple inches with tractor off. Tractor sat long time unused. likely been since the 60s since pump last used, but had very clean oil in pump when i got it running in 2016. what to check? thanks

If the loader is plumbed to the rear port on the tractor, that's your problem. Move the connection to the front port.
The rear port is for the back gang of a mounted cultivator and could be dropped separately from the front.

I am not a hyd expert, but you can buy a diffuser, i think it's called that will restrict the flow of oil, and give you some control of the going down.

Might help to change ports but that will totally depend on how you have it plumbed. Most run two hoses. One from each side on the front ports. Some T hoses together and run on either a front or rear port. Original M has same size ball and spring in both ports internally. The rear port requires lever to be pushed a little farther forward to open that check ball.

Now,if changing ports does not help, there are two other things to do . One is to add a restrictor orfice that will not change the lift cycle but will slow down the drop. It will do nothing to make it easier to open that check ball though when lowering.

Other thing that can be done requires a tear down of the pump. The Supers used a double ball check valve system. A small ball inside of a follower. It requires much less effort to lower implement and you can also control rate of drop , slow or fast by feathering lever. I put a few of them in over the years.

Ok thanks guys, i will try giving them their own ports, i have enough hose around. It is T'd into one now. Then look into the restrictor if that doesn't work. Thanks again
