finger adjustment on a Cub clutch again

I asked this question a couple of days ago and thanks to those that answered. One of posters said the fingers should 1 1/4 inches which mine are. My problem is I am having to turn in the clevis forever to get it to line up with the throw out bearing connection and I'm not sure I can turn in the clevis enough. I checked to make sure everything is installed correctly and it is - clutch plate is correct direction and throw out bearing hardware is correct. Seems like I'm missing something. How much does it mater what the finger distance is if I have clearance between them and the throw out bearing? I'm thinking I'm going to have to tighten up the fingers a bit to make the clevis reach. Any thoughts?

Sometimes the clevis gets bent. This reduces the effective throw. It should be straight. Wear on the pivot pins and holes also causes loss of reach. Jim

As I stated in your other message, I used that 1/2 inch thick nut on a long piece of brazing rod for a measure between the fingers and the throw out bearing. That worked for me and I had no trouble adjusting the free play for the pedal. Good Luck. I believe the same clutch plate and disc are the same for a Massy Pony and also the Allis Charmers G. The only difference is the adjustments for the fingers. The other 2 tractors have a different throw out bearing. Are you using the non spinning throw out bearing. I understand they have a different set up for the Cub now, but I have not used one.

What year is your Cub? For the first few years you had to adjust the clutch free pedal travel by turning the clevis inside the tractor. After that free pedal adjustment was done by a bolt at the base of the clutch pedal.

When replacing a badly worn clutch it is normal to have to shorten the linkage, sometimes significantly. Back with a new clutch you have to start out at the beginning of the adjustment.

Mine is a 47 and doesn't have an adjustment at the clutch pedal. I'm going to keep turning in the clevis and see what happens. I think its going to be very close if I can turn it in enough.
