Super H Questions

Is this the standard hydraulic pump for a Super H? Looks rather large. What is the output and pressure of the hydraulic system? The tractor has a side mount IH mower on it and when you lift it the thing just flies up, even at idle. I'm thinking it needs some type of flow restrictor in the line to the cylinder. Also what is the proper fill level for the reservoir. Never had a Super H before.

The size looks OK to me, but the closeup makes it less easy. The quick cylinder is better fixed with a larger diameter cylinder, than restricting the pressure side. You probably have a stage I SH that has had a pump put on, and the reservoir adapted from the belly pump. It holds 6 quarts, Measuring down from the top of that cap nipple (cap off) I would say 9 inches would be full. (estimate as it is not a critical depth. Jim

Thank you, This came from Maine State Prison and had been sitting for years. Starts and runs good but the Hyd oil gets really hot so I'm thinking it needs a bigger oil tank. As to cylinder it is factory from the look of it.

Hot oul fast is an indication of a closed system valve used on an open center type hydraulic system. The valve needs to have a return line that is open to the resrevoir when the valve is not being used. A closed system valve uses no return when not in use. The pump displacement will certainly make that small cylinder extend rapidly. A cheap cylinder with twice the bore will move slower. Jim

Factory SH with that type pump had the relief valve set at 1200 PSI. Without seeing how the whole system is plumbed and if it has a relief valve or not I can't answer what you have. Like Jim said you probably have a restriction on oil circulating when not on demand cycle.

I realize that the larger cylinder would slow down the lift but It seems to be a factory setup. The plumbing seems to be properly donewith a return line to tank so I will check thee oil level. Haven't had a lot of time to mess with it. I am familiar with hydraulics and the size of the pump body makes me think it has a substantial output Wish I had a manual on the mower and a parts list so I could see if it is all original. Anyone know what model the mower would be?

The mower is a 110. Have one on a Farmall 504, and bar does raise quick if valve is moved fully. Cylinder looks to be correct, at least looks same size as what I have. Think a restrictor would work ok.

Found a 110 manual on flea bay ....it is on order. Thanks to all for the help. I'll let you know how I make out.

Mower was probably setup for the belly pump. 1/3 the volume output. That would do it. Jim

The only hydraulic function on the mower is that cylinder. Output of the pump doesn't matter as long as the system flows free with the remote valve centered. If the oil is getting hot, there is a restriction in the flow, most likely the remote valve is not centered.

From what I can see this is a Stage 1 Super H with an IH live hydraulic pump from the Stage 2 tractors added in, using the belly pump as a reservoir.

Should be pulling suction from the drain on the bottom and returning through the fill pipe under the gas tank. Anything else and it's plumbed wrong.

What valve are you using? You should be able to feather the valve and get a slower raise.

It is plumbed right and I am going to Check to see if it has plenty oil. Don't get a lot of time to work on it.

I agree with Slater that without seeing the complete plumbing there is no way to tell what is going on. That is definetly not factory installed. You apparently have a remote valve mounted out of the picture and would have to include a relief valve . Returning oil to fill tube leaves no place for a reservoir breather unless one has been added out of sight. Pump looks like normal 9 gal per min pump.

My H belly sickle mower is run off the belly pump and whether cold or hot the mower rises very quickly.
