Hello I am working on a 1466. Tractor was well over past due for a clutch and TA over haul.

I put in a new TA and flywheel pressure plate and throw out bearing and all new bearings in TA housing as well.

Got her running clutch adjusted trans break adjusted all with spec sated in service manual. also adjusted TA dump and clutch booster.

everything works perfect however at idle I get a noise coming from the clutch housing area. as soon as you push in the clutch sound goes away so I was thing the throw out bearing was growling. as soon as you rev it up clutch depressed sound goes away as well.

I was just wondering what else it could be making that noise. I was just going to take her for a test drive and break everything in

just wanted to know your guys thoughts thank you in advance

"as soon as you push in the clutch sound goes away so I was thing the throw out bearing was growlin"

With your foot off of the clutch, the T.O. bearing should not be turning/touching the clutch fingers, and therefore NOT making noise.

When you "push in the clutch", the T.O. bearing IS turning/under load, THEN is when it will make noise, if defective.

Most likely caused by the slightly different contact area of the constant mesh gear on bottom of speed transmission shaft. If you probably noticed when you took it apart, those spacers were loose on the shaft and the gears were finding their own wear pattern. If you tighten that nut it cocks those gears around a bit. Lot of controversy on how to go about that but I have my own way.

Only other real possibility is mixing different degree angle teeth on the gears but that should not be a problem on that late of a model tractor as all that mixing took place half way through the 56 series.

okay thank you so my guess is the T.O. is proably makeing very little contact with the fingers cause very little spin to it causing the growl. because with clutch not engaged the noise is heard

when you push in the clutch noise goes away.

also when you speed up the engine noise goes away as well.

so we probably torqued that nut to much causing making the gears bind up? I know the guy did replace several of the gears cause they were wore. instead of having good teeth to mesh with the old teeth were rounded off

Did you in stall the gear that give you in the Reman ta then what rpm does that noise go away and does make the noise in every gear it?s hard to tell you what wrong with listening to it

Most likely the torsion springs in the the clutch disc are a little tight causing the gear train to rattle. Especially noticeable at idle It will go away after some hard field work.
