Different Starters for A

I have a starter on my 1940 A that has a single stud sticking out from the side. That connects to a foot push button primary wire (no relay) it seems to be a farmall design. I have seen starters with a saddle switch that has a linkage for a pull rod. Mine has no mounting holes for the saddle switch and the stud is at 2 o clock.
Is there a way to convert mine without buying a new starter? I wish to be able to depress the clutch with my foot and use my hand to start.
I can make the linkage no problem.

If you have the threaded stud one way would be using a solenoid and push button other way would be type used on the H and M switch which doesent need solenoid. Original starter was saddle sw that used a push rod.

I considered the relay option but like the idea of the rod. There were push rods for the foot and pull rods for the hand from what I have been reading

On many Farmalls the starter switch is just located so the operator can push it with their hand. Just relocate yours so it is easy to reach. Or you could make a mechanical link that pushes the switch by extending the existing switch. AS noted by Gene, the starter is not original. it originally had a rod activated saddle switch. Jim

The original "saddle switches" were iffy, at best, "back in the day" and today's replacements from "The Land of Almost Right" don't make the situation any better, not to mention the original design has a copper stud with a tapered "pad" that wears away with use that the pathetic "saddle switch" makes contact with.

Many were converted to the stud sticking out of the starter, like you apparently have.

APPRECIATE that Improvement install a starter solenoid with a little pushbutton switch located where it is convenient for you, and don't look back.

That's why I asked. I think I will relocate the HD push button I have that someone obviously added. It is the the type from an H or M.
Thanks guys.

As a kid we had an A with a push foot peddle. I don't remember exactly how it was configured - that was about 55 years ago.

I have a very big nose but still can't reach the button. Can try using my heel on the clutch and my toes for the button. I just keep finding things to mess with. I think it the fun in having the tractor.

I believe an A has the same style of graphite throwout bearing as the Farmall Cub, which imposes a lot of drag on the engine. Proper starting procedure for the Cub is to have the transmission in Neutral and your foot OFF the clutch. It would be the same on an A.
