Hi there to whom can help,

We have recently been given a International W4 Tractor that we think is a 1948 model tractor that we have.

I just would like to confirm what the Letters stand for and is you can identify what Month it was built.

Serial Number: WBN20898W6

Regards,
Jake

Should be WBH to ID as a W-4 model tractor. W6 code is called low speed gears and indicates a slow first gear compared to the other first speed option. Some serial numbers had the slow as standard and some like yours had the faster first as standard. Think the serial number in question was assembled in August 48.

Thank you So Slater, Great information and yes my fault as my entering was incorrect with the WBH. Thanks again.

Do you know on what some checks will be of this Tractor been sitting in the shed for about 7-8 years and they haven't started it. So would you know what we need to do before we try to start it.

If you can assist in this that will be much appreciated.
Regards, Jake

Hello again D Slater, Attached is the W4 that I was given. This has been sitting for over 7-8 years in a shed. The photo was before going into the shed. So between 2012 and 2013 the tractor was like the photo before moving in the shed. It is located 1 hour north of Perth, Western Australia. As I live in Perth.

Looking forward to your reply.
Regards, Jake.

Thank you Tom,

Do they take a bit of time to get them started. After a long time sitting. Is there anything needed to the Spark Plugs or do the Magneto's play up as been sitting or not. Should all be fine. Just require a bit of oil in each cylinder then fuel and ready to attempt to start.
Regards, Jake.

Hello Dear Slater,
Just seeing if there is any more information on the W6 part of the serial number as dose it have twin tanks, shutters on radiator, etc or W6 is just listed for Low Gears.

Question one is "why was it put in a shed 7 or 8 years ago"

Was something broken? Did an owner pass away or get to a point where they just weren't able to use it? Knowing what it went down for is always the most important thing (same with buying a trade in!)

The W4 was moved into the shed for a few reasons.
The tractor was on display at the school insoors and then they needed to move it as where it was parked they couldn't get the student lockers into place with still having to tractor still under cover. So they then moved it into the shed and the tractor has been sitting since then. As they don't use Petrol Tractors on the farm plus the HP is to low to work in some jobs the other 140 HP tractor and 210HP tractor work on 8000 Arce Farm. So the W4 was used on the farm since 1949 so it has done it's working life on the farm. So it just has a rear flat tyre and that is not much else. Regards Jake
